U and Û
Etymology: Eretiǹgrai U, from the same letter in Mižinai.
The 28th letter of the
T́uliǹgrai alphabet is a vowel. Like all vowels,
it's short, and has two aspects, called "broad" and "narrow".
The broad aspect of this vowel is pronounced like the short U in Latin or the U in Spanish, and its name is
u (informal) and
euretai (formal).
The narrow aspect is pronounced like the U in English words like cut, hut, putt, or shut. Its name is
û or
u kapeol (informal), or
eûretai or
euretai kapeol (formal).

ÛK–
Etymology: Er. uk, the (definite article)
Ûk —
A particle denoting the head (or, in rare cases, any one of multiple heads) of a Verē-style household. It
precedes the name of the household as a title for the head of that household, and is modified for gender only, e.g.,
Tlûk Ebory would be the proper way to address the head of the Eborai household: male gender marker
tl– and –y suffix of the vocative case. Likewise, if the female head of the Takai
house were used in a sentence as the direct object of a verb, the phrase would be K'ûk Taki, employing
the k'– female gender prefix and the –i suffix of the accusative case. In fiction on
this site, ûk is often rendered "Lord", "Lady", etc.
(honorific particle)
–ûk– —
The infix –ûk–, when inserted into the name of a sentient species between the root and the
case ending, is used as the name of that species' collective mind, if it has one, whether conscious or not. Thus,
Verûkai is the race mind of the Verē species, rendered in writing on this site as Verûk.
