Etymology: Eretiǹgrai J and HJ, from the same letters in Mižinai.

The 23rd letter of the T́uliǹgrai alphabet has two aspects, voiced and voiceless.

The voiced aspect of this consonant is pronounced like the consonantal I in Latin words like iacere or iudex, or the consonantal Y in English words like yesterday or yellow. Its name is jo (informal) and ejoretai (formal).

jao — Either, or. Note: Should be JAOS, but JAO was chosen instead, perhaps to make it more different from AIS, and.

Jao is used in four ways: (1) Placed between two nouns, it presents them as alternatives: Juhai jao Pâtai zunihis, Juho or Pâta will go. (2) Placed before the last of three or more nouns, it works the same way: Juhai, Vîd́ai, jao Pâtai zunihis, Juho, Vîd́a, or Pâta will go. (3) It can be appended to the second of two nouns: Kristi Samijao k'ozezîvan ailenyr? Did you see Kristu or Samo yesterday? (4) When used twice, once before each of a pair of nouns, JAO A JAO B means "Either A or B". Jao Kaθai jao Susai tluzuzîvas, either Kaθa or Suso will see him (conjunctional particle).
